The laptop I use

Before my current laptop, I had needed a design one for uni, and my old one had lasted a pretty long time (maybe around 4 years). You can imagine my surprise when I opened my surface laptop and found that Photoshop didn’t need to take minutes to export and I could run all my Adobe programs at once.

This was the initial joy of the Microsoft Surface Laptop 2.

Here is a list of what I was looking for at the time, and what I’ve found works great:

1. It’s Colour Correct

   I often found when printing artwork, or when posting to Instagram, the colours would be completely different. Now that hardly ever happens, although I will say it’s not 100% accurate - but pretty close

2. It’s Fast enough

   My old laptop would crash if I ran anything alongside Premiere Pro or After Effects. This laptop actually allows you to have Illustrator and Photoshop running while they are up!

3. It has a Stylus

   Around the time I bought my laptop digital art was perhaps an even bigger thing than today. Fortunately I still use my stylus, and the touchscreen properties make navigating actually so much simpler

4. Photoshop

   The great thing is you can now draw in Photoshop without buying a waccom. I also recommend downloading texture brushes since I haven’t found any with Photoshop that work that well. Luckily Adobe, also have some for free on their website if you’re a member.

5. It’s easy to transport

   It’s actually not the lightest but it’s skinny and this helps

6. The Fans

   One thing about my old laptop was that the fans were the first thing to go. So far (fingers crossed) my fans have been the least of my problems, since they’re located in the screen and not the dusty and inconvenient base.

7. Tablet Mode

   I think this is possibly the most useless mode for me, but it’s good to know. If you’re someone who enjoys drawing directly onto a flat table, then this is probably a great bonus.
